For those teachers who cannot conduct Investigation 3, “Meet the Crayfish,” with crayfish because you live in a location where you cannot obtain crayfish, or because of severe shellfish allergies in the classroom, we offer the alternative investigation, “Meet the Hissing Cockroach.” Your students’ experiences with these organisms will be just as rich as if they were investigating crayfish.
